Maëlle Ricker still has plans for the Sochi Olympics despite undergoing surgery earlier this week for a compound fracture in her left forearm.

The Olympic gold medalist and world champion snowboarder was injured this past Tuesday while training in Aspen, Colo. The Canadian Olympic Committee issued a statement that Ricker decided to have surgery on her wrist after consulting with her coach and team staff.

According to Dr. James Bovard, the medical director for Canada Snowboard, said the operation was done in Vail, Colo., and "couldn't have gone any better and we're extremely pleased with the outcome." Ricker, 35, has a half cast on her left arm.

She is scheduled to return to Squamish, B.C., before heading to Sochi with the rest of the snowboard team on Feb. 8.

"My goal is to be ready for the start gate in Sochi," Ricker said in a release. "I've had a lot of injuries in my career and it's important to stay positive and focus on the privilege of competing for Canada at the Olympics."

Steven Hills, the executive director of Canada Snowboard, added the coaches and medal staff will continue to work with Ricker "to make sure she's in the start gate on Feb. 16 with competition confidence."

This will be Ricker's fourth trip to the Olympic Games.
