Canadian men’s national team coach Stephen Hart has selected Toronto FC’s Julian de Guzman and Ashtone Morgan among his squad of 22 players for upcoming matches next month.
Canada will host the United States in an exhibition at BMO Field on June 3 before playing a pair of World Cup qualifiers - away to Cuba on June 8 before welcoming Honduras to BMO Field on June 12.
The squad, announced Thursday morning, also features former Toronto FC captain Dwayne De Rosario, now with D.C. United, along with fellow Major League Soccer stalwarts Andre Hainault, of Houston Dynamo, and Ante Jazic, of Chivas USA.
De Rosario heads into the triple-header of games needing just one more goal to break Dale Mitchell’s national team record. The Scarborough, Ont., native currently has 19 from 66 internationals.
Hart has also given another look to 17-year-old midfielder Samuel Piette, of Repentigny, Que. Piette, who was also called up to the squad for last February's exhibition match against Armenia in Cyprus, has yet to be capped at the senior level but was widely considered one of Canada's best players at last year's FIFA under-17 World Cup in Mexico.
