Juventus missed the chance to go back to the top of the Serie A table as it was held to a 0-0 draw at Parma on Wednesday.

Antonio Conte's side had the better opportunities and could have taken the lead as early as the fourth minute when Giorgio Chiellini saw his header deflected off the post. Juventus also had two decent second-half penalty shouts turned down.

The Bianconeri increased the pressure in the final 10 minutes, but Parma goalkeeper Nicola Pavarini pulled off several good saves to deny Andrea Pirlo and Emanuele Giaccherini.

The match was meant to be held on Jan. 31 but was postponed because of snow.

Juventus, which remains unbeaten all season, is now one point behind Serie A leader AC Milan, but with a game in hand. Parma is back in 12th.

Elsewhere, Atalanta beat Genoa 1-0 with Guido Marilungo scoring the only goal of the game in the 80th minute.

Juventus almost got off to the perfect start when Chiellini connected with Pirlo's free kick but Parma defender Alessandro Lucarelli inadvertently got in the way of his header and it crashed off the post and out for a corner.

Pirlo produced another great chance in the 20th minute when his free kick flew inches wide.

Parma was rooted to its own half as it attempted to stifle wave after wave of Juventus attacks and the visiting side came close again moments before halftime when Alessandro Matri got in behind the defence but Pavarini rushed out to smother the danger.

Parma hadn't produced a shot on goal in the entire first half but it almost took the lead shortly after the break and Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon had to act smartly to tip Sebastian Giovinco's shot around the post.

Juventus had two good penalty shouts turned down, first when Giaccherini went down in the area under a hefty challenge. Eight minutes later, Andrea Barzagli was pushed over in the area by Giovinco but again nothing was given.

Pirlo should have scored nine minutes from time with a fierce shot from outside the area which Pavarini did well to keep out with a diving save.

The Parma goalkeeper did even better four minutes later when he denied Giaccherini from point-blank range

In Bergamo, Atalanta should have taken the lead in the 20th minute when top scorer German Denis crashed an effort off the far post after being picked out by Luca Cigarini.

Genoa also hit the woodwork, when Juraj Kucka headed Miguel Veloso's corner off the crossbar.

Denis had a double chance in the 69th minute after Riccardo Cazzola had raced down the left flank. Denis saw his first effort parried by Genoa goalkeeper Sebastien Frey and the Argentine striker fired the rebound off the bar.

Marilungo finally broke the deadlock 10 minutes from time as he drilled a low shot home following a swift one-two with Denis.
