Spain striker Diego Costa has completed his move to Chelsea from Atletico Madrid.
Chelsea announced on Tuesday that Costa signed a five-year contract, two weeks after the London club agreed to meet the player’s reported buyout clause of €38-million (US$52-million).
Costa scored 35 goals last season to help Atletico win its first Spanish league title in 18 years and reach the Champions League final, knocking out Chelsea in the semifinals.
“I am very happy to sign for Chelsea. Everybody knows it is a big club in a very competitive league, and I am very excited to get started in England with a fantastic coach and team mates,” Costa was quoted as saying on the club’s website.
The Brazil-born forward had an underwhelming World Cup, failing to score as Spain’s title defence ended in the group stage.
