Toronto FC acquired defender Ryan Richter from the Charleston Battery of the USL Pro League on Monday.

Richter will be added to the club’s roster upon receipt of his international transfer certificate.

Richter, 23, helped Charleston capture a league championship last season.

Richter was originally selected in the first round of the 2011 MLS supplemental draft by the Philadelphia Union.

He signed with the Union before being sent on loan to the Harrisburg City Islanders of the USL Pro League.
