The Vancouver Whitecaps re-signed top scorer Camilo Sanvezzo on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old Brazilian enjoyed a successful 2011 campaign with the Major League Soccer team following a pre-season trial.

Camilo led Vancouver with 13 goals in all competitions, including 12 in MLS play.

"He had an outstanding first season with us and will be an important part of our squad for years to come," Whitecaps coach Martin Rennie said in a statement. "Camilo can play up front as a striker or as a wide attacking midfielder. He's got plenty of pace and skill, plus a real nose for goal. He's also a big threat on set-pieces in and around the opposition's penalty box."

Combined with fellow striker Eric Hassli and Tuesday's acquisition of Sebastien Le Toux, Vancouver is currently the only MLS team with three players who scored 10 or more goals last season.

"I am very happy to sign this new contract," Camilo said. "I am really enjoying my time in Vancouver and the support of the Whitecaps fans."
