The Big Three Add to ...


Heading into the U.S. Open at Congressional Country Club this week, no American has won a major since Phil Mickelson took the 2010 Masters. The current title holders are: Charl Schwartzel (2011 Masters), Martin Kaymer (2010 PGA Championship), Louis Oosthuizen (2010 British Open) and Graeme McDowell (2010 U.S. Open).


Next weekend, the Toronto Blue Jays visit the Cincinnati Reds to be reminded of failing to draft Joey Votto out of Toronto in their own backyard. The defending National League most valuable player had a .339 batting average entering major-league action Sunday.


As though yet more Boston content is needed on the Canadian sports scene, on Wednesday Toronto FC visits New England to play the Revolution in Major League Soccer play. Both teams are languishing in the Eastern Conference: TFC's 2-5-8, New England 3-7-4.
