Today is ONLY SORT OF Rogers Upfront... This year, they aren't doing the one big flashy show previewing their coming schedule and what they spent bajillions of dollars on in L.A. this year. Susan Krashinsky has already written that story. But this is still the start of the "upfront week" for the big broadcasters, with Bell/CTV to follow on Thursday June 4. Shaw is following Rogers's lead, though both are doing media events.

The Retail Council of Canada's Store Conference 2015 is also happening today, on the theme of "Harnessing Disruption." Speakers include digital retail folks from Etsy, Uber, Facebook, Google, BuildDirect, Shopify and Airbnb.

In other tech news, telecom gear maker Ericsson said on Tuesday it had won a tender for a seven-year playout services contract with British public broadcaster BBC for its television channels in Britain and BBC World News.

The managed services contract includes the technology and operations that allows the BBC to deliver programmes to audiences through linear television channels, Ericsson said in a statement.
