Twitter Canada has a new boss almost a year and a half after former country head Kirstine Stewart was promoted.

Rory Capern, who has been head of partnerships at Google Canada, will take over as general manager of Twitter Canada in mid-February. He was not made available for interviews.

The 40-person nordic outpost for the San Francisco social network had been without a permanent boss since Ms. Stewart became vice-president of North American media in September, 2014. In the interim, Matt Derella, vice-president of sales, has managed the office from New York.

Mr. Capern has a background in sales and business development with Google Canada and Microsoft Canada, as well as roles with Bell Canada, Torstar Digital and Lavalife.

Twitter's user growth has stagnated in recent quarters, and at the same time the company has struggled to raise its ad revenue. Twitter co-founder and former chief executive officer Jack Dorsey reclaimed the full-time CEO job in October, 2015.
