'Sell low, buy high' is no way to invest in bonds

As dumb investor tricks go, it’s hard to beat the market timing with bond ETFs in the past year or so.

Exchange-traded funds holding bonds were subjected to heavy net redemptions last year, which means more money flowed out than in. Take the iShares DEX Universe Bond Index Fund, for example. Data from the Canadian ETF Association shows net redemptions for this fund of $416-million.
