U.S. energy boom will force oil patch to new markets

American oil production continues to ramp higher while Canadian companies remain dependent on U.S. energy demand. Will Canada need a new market for its oil?

Oil exports to the United States fell 10 per cent between August and September this year, an event primarily responsible for Friday’s disappointing Canadian gross domestic products report. There were a number of factors underlying the decline – including the economic effects of Hurricane Sandy – but the news will still send jitters through the oil patch as a sign of things to come.
