Special dividend bonanza threatens to break the bank

Despite the danger of a massive increase in U.S. dividend taxes in 2013 as a result of Washington’s “fiscal cliff” negotiations, some of the biggest cash hoarders in corporate America refuse to share their stashes of greenbacks with shareholders. But, oddly, several companies who can ill afford it are handing out special dividends like drunken Santas on Christmas Eve.
