Death of mining M&A greatly exaggerated

Here’s something I didn’t expect to find when running the numbers to see which sector in Canada has been busiest for merger and acquisition activity: it’s mining.

It feels like every item written about the health of the Canadian investment banking industry (including this one from Thursday) attributes some of the doldrums to a lack of activity in commodity businesses like mining. And while it’s true on the financing side, it’s less true in M&A.
