After major U.S. merger, BATS-Direct Edge CEO sets sights on Canada

If there were any doubts about how tough it is to run a stock exchange in the United States, the fact that Joe Ratterman wants to look for growth in Canada should put them to rest.

Mr. Ratterman – head of what is set to become the second-largest U.S. stock market – says he is interested in coming north to build a new market once he is done putting together Direct Edge Holdings LLC and BATS Global Markets Inc., which announced their merger Monday.
