Blakes leads law firms in M&A

Blake Cassels & Graydon LLP has again topped the list of law firms advising on Canadian merger-and-acquisitions deals, according to data compiled by Thomson Reuters.

Blakes, which dominated 2011’s rankings as well, placed first in 2012, with 127 deals worth $50.55-billion (U.S.). Osler Hoskin & Harcourt was second and Stikeman Elliott -- counsel to China’s state-owned CNOOC Ltd. in its headline-making acquisition of Nexen Inc. -- was third. Calgary-based Burnet Duckworth & Palmer LLP placed fourth, with Torys LLP rounding out the top five.
