Canadian Natural Resources says no to natural gas partners

Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. is hellbent on going it alone.

Despite a growing wave of joint venture partnerships being inked to develop natural gas properties, like the one Encana Corp. just signed with PetroChina, CNQ wants nothing to do with a partner.

Steve Laut, the company’s president, spoke with RBC Dominion Securities analyst Greg Pardy recently, and Mr. Pardy wrote afterward that CNQ has “absolutely no interest in pursuing joint venture arrangements on its vast natural gas land base.”
