Executive Compensation Report: Legend
How to read the chart
This is fiscal 2005 data for companies in Canada's S&P/TSX composite index. Some companies do not appear because they have not yet reported their executive compensation data for 2005. Data is shown for the CEO or the most senior executive for companies that do not have CEOs. Where there are two names, the company has co-CEOs. CEO compensation at some income trusts is shown on the chart even when the executives are paid by a management company. Some trusts do not disclose compensation when it is paid by a management company so no information appears on the chart.
- Currency
- For compensation reported in U.S. dollars, all numbers are converted to Canadian dollars at the average exchange rate for 2005 (1.2116 cents). For companies with irregular year-ends (not Dec. 31), U.S. dollars were converted at the exchange rate at the fiscal year-end.
- Salary
- is base salary.
- Bonus
- is annual bonus.
- Percentage change
- is the change from 2004 total salary and bonus. It is not shown if the executive was not in the same position for all of 2005 and 2004.
- Other
- includes all other payments or the cash value of other benefits, including items such as insurance premiums, car and housing allowances, imputed value of interest-free loans, and, in some cases, termination payments.
- Share units
- are the total value of all shares, share units, trust units, long-term incentive plan payouts or other equity-based payments. If companies do not disclose the cash value of shares or units granted, they are assumed to be the value of the company's stock at the fiscal year-end.
- Option gains
- are the net profit after the exercise of stock options, SARs or equivalent income trust unit rights.
- New option grant
- is the number of stock options or trust unit rights granted in 2005.
- Value of new options
- is the estimated future value of option grants. It is based on companies' estimated weighted average fair value of all options granted during the fiscal year. It is normally calculated using the Black-Sholes formula. Where no value is shown, the company did not disclose the average fair value per option.
- N/A
- means the data was not available.
