Registration is now open for the 2019 Employee Recommended Workplace Awards at www.employeerecommended.com.

How you feel plays a big role in how productive and happy you are on any given day. If you’re tired, overwhelmed and emotionally exhausted it’s much harder to have a good day.

And if your mental health is compromised in any way, being productive and happy is an even bigger challenge.

The topic of mental health is a big part of the latest e-book -- Inch by Inch, Make Life a Cinch -- compiled by The Globe and Mail as part of the Employee Recommended Workplace Award. The Globe and Mail and Morneau Shepell created the Employee Recommended Workplace Award in 2016 to honour companies that put the health and well-being of their employees first.

Nearly every week for the past year, The Globe and Morneau Shepell have published an article looking at life at work and how to make it better – both from an employee and employer standpoint. These articles have delved into issues that include ways to stay calm, how to keep your brain healthy and how to improve your mental health through the “PLAY” formula.

We’ve also examined how to tell whether you’re a workaholic, how to rewire your brain to think positively, and how to get more grit. We’ve talked about journal writing, overeating and how pets can help reduce stress.

This is the third year of the Employee Recommended Workplace Award. It’s an award based solely on the health and well-being of an organization’s employees. When an organization registers for the award, their employees are asked to take a volunteer online survey that looks at four pillars: work, life, physical health and mental health. Each employee’s score counts toward the company’s aggregate score. Organizations whose score reaches a certain threshold earn the right to use the Employee Recommended Workplace badge.

The e-book is offered to any participating employee as a reward for completing the survey.

The Globe also offers the e-book to our subscribers as it’s a comprehensive compilation of workplace wellness articles that we’ve published in the past year.

So take a deep dive into your life and health at work, and find new ways to cope with the ups and downs that life and work throws at you daily.
