This slight seriocomic coming-to-America road movie sees two Dutch sisters, Sofie and Daan (Carice and Jelka van Houten) travel to New Mexico to help their long-estranged mother with a medical crisis. Mom – the titular Jackie – is played by Holly Hunter as a possibly mentally addled crank who lives in a cluttered RV, and her grimly serious oddball performance gives the film more gravity than the script deserves. Encounters with rattlesnakes, karaoke and sexy cowboys ensue, as Sophie learns to work less to be less of a workaholic, and the husband-dominated Daan gains confidence, all under their ornery mom's guidance.
