Tonight (Wednesday), author Richard Ford will be in Toronto for the annual Pen Canada benefit, the event that kicks off the 2010 International Festival of Authors.

Ford's forthcoming novel Canada -- a story "of revenge and violent retribution set on the Saskatchewan prairie, in the early 1960s," says, Ecco, his publisher -- formalizes his well-known fondness for this country. He will be in conversation with Writer & Company's Eleanor Wachtel. Mark Kingwell will host.

Proceeds from this event go to PEN Canada. PEN Canada operates a number of programs, including "Free Expression in Canada."
