CBC, 8 p.m. Ken Finkleman's TV-movie return to his most popular work is a fun farce that lives up to his auteur reputation. The first half is full of classic (if a little tired) Newsroom antics by the airhead anchors Peter Keleghan and Leah Pinsent, paranoid and cynical news producers played by Finkleman, Jeremy Hotz and Karen Hines. Halfway through the movie, a fire alarm goes off in the Toronto News offices and it rips through the script. Suddenly this isn't a story about the foibles of network news but a deconstruction of The Newsroom. It's almost as if Finkleman is trying to cast off The Newsroom albatross so he can get on with more interesting and esoteric ideas. Didn't work though. Currently he's working on yet another season of The Newsroom for CBC.
