Kari Skogland and Paul Gross are among the nominees for best director of a feature film at this year's Directors Guild of Canada awards. Skogland is up for her film Fifty Dead Men Walking on the Troubles in Northern Ireland, while Gross is nominated for the First World War epic Passchendaele. Rounding out the nominees for best director for a Canadian feature film are Patricia Rozema for Kit Kittredge: An American Girl and Michael McGowan for One Week.

The nominees for best direction for a TV series are Holly Dale for Flashpoint, Marizee Almas for Smallville, James Genn for Robson Arms and Don McBrearty for Murdoch Mysteries. Taking place Oct. 24 in Toronto, the awards also cover various categories from production design to sound and picture editing.
