Former federal justice minister Irwin Cotler, writers Dennis Lee, Sylvia Fraser, Barry Callaghan and Rosemary Sullivan, CITY-TV founder Moses Znaimer, editor Ellen Seligman, publisher Anna Porter and book dealer David Mason are among the scheduled participants in a tribute evening to legendary Canadian poet Irving Layton on June 21 in Toronto.
Layton -- author of more than 30 collections of poetry, including A Red Carpet for the Sun, which won the Governor-General's Award in 1959 -- died in Montreal in January at 93 after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 1995. The evening, organized and hosted by Layton's son, Max, will feature
a potpourri of poetry readings,
anecdotes, film and audio clips, reminiscences, photographs and valedictions. It starts at 7:30 p.m.
at the city's Harbourfront Centre.
