J.G. Ballard is the new winner of the Eurasian regional Commonwealth Writers Prize, replacing Amitav Ghosh, who withdrew his novel The Glass Palace.

Ballard has won for the book Super-Cannes,described by the judges as "a sharply apocalyptic satire on the fantastic, futuristic world of corrupt, European corporate practices."

Overall winners of the Commonwealth Writers Prize will be announced this week. Vancouver writer Anita Rau Badami is in contention after winning the Caribbean and Canada regional prize for The Hero's Walk,and Calgary writer Pearl Luke is in the running for the best first book prize for Burning Ground.
