A fan frenzy about a surprise Toronto show from Prince seemed to fizzle Tuesday afternoon when Live Nation confirmed that the Purple One would not be playing Massey Hall.

Rumours about a "pop-up show" by the singer began to spread earlier in the day after this quickly deleted tweet from Prince's band, 3rdEyeGirl: "4th day of November, we need a purple high: OTNOROT CALLING..."

Photos of lineups outside Massey Hall were already circulating on social media by Tuesday morning.

The pop legend earned plaudits for a long medley performed during Saturday's SNL, hosted by Chris Rock.

Prince previously lived in the Toronto area, and 3rdEyeGirl guitarist Donna Grantis — who shared an extended solo with the seven-time Grammy winner during the SNL performance — is from nearby Mississauga.

Prince released his latest record, Art Official Age, in September.
