After an extended break from performing, Shania Twain is returning to the stage for a two-year residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
Twain's new gig was announced Wednesday during an online news conference. The You're Still the One singer is set to perform 60 shows a year, beginning Dec. 1, 2012.
"I'm beyond excited," Twain said during the news conference.
"I feel like I'm on the top of the world. Honestly, I feel like I've climbed a very giant mountain and I'm just standing right on top with my arms open wide. This is really beautiful, really lovely, I'm very excited today."
Twain has not had a new album since 2002's Up and has kept a low profile in recent years as she dealt with the breakup of her marriage to music producer Robert (Mutt) Lange.
She has stepped back into the spotlight this spring with a new reality TV show and an autobiography.
Twain has said the breakup with Lange was so painful that it caused her to lose her voice, and her recovery was documented in her reality show, Why Not? With Shania Twain.
But she said Wednesday she could scarcely wait to take the stage once again.
"I wish I could just get started tomorrow," she enthused.
"Today is a turning point for me. I feel as though I'm about to step into a world of endless creative possibilities and that is so exciting for a songwriter, for an artist, to take songs and translate them into such a magical place, on a magical platform.
"So this will be like no other platform I've ever been on before with my songs. It's a whole new beginning, I think, for the old music, if you will."
Twain will not be the first Canadian diva to grace the Vegas stage.
Celine Dion had a hugely successful five-year stint at the Colosseum that ended in 2007 and started a return Vegas engagement in March.
