The Amazing Race Canada

The homegrown spinoff of The Amazing Race will lure mid-summer viewers with Canadian scenery and major prizes.

The Amazing Race Canada will debut July 15 on CTV with what producers claim is "the biggest prize ever awarded for a Canadian competition television series."

The grand prize in the series will be $250,000 cash or the opportunity to fly first class free for a year to any destination Air Canada flies. Also in the prize mix will be two 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingrays.

Unlike the current CBS version of The Amazing Race, in which U.S. contestants travel around the world in pursuit of a $1-million grand prize, the Canadian edition of the globetrotting reality series will follow two-person teams scrambling to locations within our borders. CTV has received thousands of applications from participant hopefuls since announcing the spinoff last year.

Although production specifics of the Canadian spinoff, including the host's name and filming locales, are being kept under wraps by CTV, some details have been leaking out in recent weeks.

Last Friday, contestants were spotted in Niagara Falls, Ontario, as they gathered their knapsacks and sprinted toward waiting vehicles in the traditional competition kickoff. The next day, several Twitter users reported seeing contestants on a flight to Vancouver and shortly after on another flight to Kelowna, B.C.
