FOOD Top Chef Canada Food Network, 7 p.m. Foodie fans agree: The sophomore edition of this Canadian-made cooking competition is already outpacing the first season. In tonight's third episode, the Quickfire Challenge tasks the amateur chefs with designing a meal that merges two very different ingredients into one palatable dish. In the Elimination Challenge, the chefs are split into two-person teams to create a catered meal for a baby shower. Lisa Ray hosts.
REALITY Who Do You Think You Are? NBC, Citytv, 8 p.m. Midway into its third season, this series featuring celebrities tracking their family history continues to draw a respectable audience on Friday night. In tonight's new outing, actress Rita Wilson, the wife of Oscar-winner Tom Hanks, unravels her lineage with an extended trip overseas. Following the revelation that her real name is Margarita Ibrahimoff, she first travels to Greece for a walking tour of her late father's hometown, which in turn leads her to Bulgaria, where she learns of the hardships that shaped her father's life and resulted in him relocating to Los Angeles. As in each episode of the series, Ms. Wilson discovers a fact about her past that reduces her to tears.
DRAMA CSI: NY CBS, CTV, 9 p.m. Finally back with new episodes, tonight's episode of this sturdy crime procedural rewinds the clock to the fifties. While investigating the brutal murder of a lab technician, CSI boss Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise) discovers the crime has an eerie similarity to a cold case from the fifties. Watch for seventies TV fixture Lee Majors, aka The Six Million Dollar Man, in a guest role as the retired cop who investigated the original murder case.
NEWS 20/20 ABC, CHCH, 10 p.m. Imagine the freedom of a massive lottery win. Later tonight, some lucky soul south of the border will be named winner of the Mega Millions lottery, which has a grand prize of $540-million US -- the largest jackpot in U.S. history. But will all that money make them happy? Barbara Walters looks at past winners and losers and attempts to answer the eternal question: Why do so many lottery winners end up broke?
MOVIE The Lost Weekend TCM, 10 p.m, ET; 7 p.m. PT Considered bold for its time, this 1945 drama boasts an Oscar-winning performance by Ray Milland. The versatile Welsh actor puts both heart and soul into his portrayal of Don Birman, a struggling writer whose lust for alcohol consumes his every waking moment. Despite the best efforts of his brother Wick (Philip Terry) and long-suffering girlfriend Helen (Jane Wyman), Don goes from one bender to the next, until his drinking eventually costs him his job and social standing. The scenes of Don drying out in a New York drunk tank are enough to make anyone swear off booze forever.
