A performer with Cirque du Soleil has been rushed to hospital after suffering a heart attack before a performance in Sydney on Friday, according to a local report.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that paramedics were called to the big top at about 5 p.m., prior to a performance of the touring show Totem, which opened in Australia's most populous city just days ago.

The performer, who was not identified, was said to have suffered a heart attack while using an exercise bicycle and was now recovering in hospital.

Performances were scheduled to resume on Saturday.
