Renowned Canadian dancer Peggy Baker has won the $50,000 Walter Carsen Prize.

The award, presented by the Canadian Council for the Arts, recognizes career achievement by artists who have spent much of their career on home soil.

The Edmonton-born Baker has toured with dancers including Lar Lubovitch, Mikhail Baryshnikov and Mark Morris.

She also founded Toronto's Dancemakers in 1974 and the Peggy Baker Dance Projects in 1990.
