Patrick Egwu is a Toronto-based journalist with The Globe's Report on Business and recently completed the William Southam Journalism Fellowship at Massey College, University of Toronto. Before moving to Toronto, Patrick was formerly based in Johannesburg as a freelancer and reported on human rights, social justice, global health and migration for Foreign Policy, NPR, Daily Maverick, Rest of World, World Politics Review, and elsewhere. An alum of the Open Society Foundation Fellowship in Investigative Reporting at the University of Witwatersrand, Patrick was shortlisted for the 2022 Taco Kuiper Award for Investigative Journalism in South Africa for an undercover investigation on the sale of fake Covid-19 certificates. He is the co-author of WhatsApp and Everyday Life in West Africa and Remaking Nigeria: Sixty Years, Sixty Voices.
