The University of Calgary is pleased to announce the selection of community leader and journalist Deborah Yedlin as chancellor.
Deborah Yedlin is the University of Calgary’s 14th chancellor, effective July 1, 2018.
A respected member of the community and influential thought leader, Yedlin has served on the board of numerous arts and community organizations, including the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Calgary Opera, YMCA Calgary, United Way Calgary, and Winsport. As a journalist for the Financial Post, Globe and Mail and the Calgary Herald, she has been observing, commenting and writing about the nexus of business and politics for more than two decades. In addition to her writing, she has been a regular commentator for CBC Radio and Television and CTV.
Her innovative thinking and deep commitment to her community align well with the university’s Eyes High strategy — our vision to be recognized as one of Canada’s top five research universities by 2022, fully engaging the communities we both serve and lead.
Yedlin will participate in activities that advance the university in the community, preside over convocation, serve on the Board of Governors, and chair the University of Calgary Senate — a dedicated group of volunteers whose mission is to deeply connect the university and the community.
The University of Calgary is a global intellectual hub located in Canada’s most enterprising city. In our spirited, high-quality learning environment, students thrive in programs made rich by research, hands-on experiences and entrepreneurial thinking. Our strategy drives us to be recognized as one of Canada’s top five research universities, engaging the communities we both serve and lead.
