Dr. Karlee Silver, Co-Chief Executive Officer, Grand Challenges Canada

The Board of Directors of Grand Challenges Canada is delighted to announce that Dr. Karlee Silver has been appointed Co-Chief Executive Officer to lead the organization in its next phase of growth.

Grand Challenges Canada is one of Canada’s largest impact investors seeding and scaling innovations that address needs in developing countries, humanitarian crises, and in Canada’s Indigenous communities. Grand Challenges Canada has supported over 1,000 projects in 90 countries which have the potential to improve up to 35 million lives and save up to 1.6 million lives by year 2030. Funded primarily by the Government of Canada, every dollar invested is doubled by other funders and partners, including other governments, foundations such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and private companies and investors.

“We opted for an innovative approach in both the model and the two strong individuals selected to lead the organization. In presenting their vision for a co-CEO model, the Board was struck by the ambition, pragmatism and dynamism of their plans,” emphasized Mme Guylaine Saucier, Chair of the Board.
