Dr. M. Ian Bowmer, MDCM, FRCPC, FRCP, FACHS, President, The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of CanadaSUPPLIED
The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada welcomes Dr. M. Ian Bowmer, MDCM, FRCPC, FRCP, FCAHS as its 45th President.
A HIV researcher, Dr. Bowmer spent 40 years practising internal medicine and infectious diseases in St. John’s NL. He joined the faculty of Memorial University in 1975, eventually becoming Dean of Medicine.
He was elected President of the Medical Council of Canada in 1991 and served as its Executive Director for 11 years.
Dr. Bowmer has a long history volunteering for the Royal College, first as an examiner and, when elected to its Council, he sat as Chair of the Accreditation and Credential Committees.
