Paul Deegan, President and Chief Executive Officer, News Media CanadaSUPPLIED

Jamie Irving, Chair of News Media Canada, is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Deegan as President and Chief Executive Officer.

Mr. Deegan is accountable for News Media Canada’s critical policy files and advancing its positions on a range of important policy matters facing the news media industry, including taxation, employment standards, recycling, freedom of information, privacy, copyright, and levelling the digital playing field.

Mr. Deegan has held senior public affairs executive leadership roles at Canadian National Railway and BMO Financial Group. He also served as Deputy Executive Director of the National Economic Council in the Clinton White House, and worked for the Government of Ontario’s Cabinet Office.

A longtime supporter of excellence in Canadian journalism, he is a member of the executive committee of the Canadian Journalism Foundation and is a director of the Michener Awards Foundation. A graduate of University of Toronto, he has completed advanced executive programs with the Ivey/Kellogg and Rotman business schools.
