The terms “accountability” and “trust” are bantered around the investment industry. For Wes Ashton, these words mean “doing the right thing” and “acting in the client’s best interest”.

Wes is Director of Growth Strategy and Portfolio Manager at Oakwater Wealth Counsel, and sits on the firm’s Investment Committee. Although he wears many hats, Wes is most passionate about the relationships he’s built with the families of Harbourfront’s most extensive client practice.

Most investment professionals focus on how to manage the day-to-day operations of the client advisor relationship— portfolio management, tax, retirement, trusts, etc. After more than 20 years in the industry, Wes recognizes the importance of counselling families on their financial matters during different stages of life. As families go through various events, both good and bad, the focus changes on what’s important to them.

Wes has been recognized as one of Canada’s top advisors for several consecutive years from multiple organizations, and is a regular media contributor. He prioritizes his relationships with his clients as he works with them to better their lives. His goal is to reduce their stress of managing finances, so they can enjoy the things that matter most.

Active in his professional and personal communities, Wes is committed to the ongoing education of Canadians and his peers, and has delivered wealth management lectures across the country. He holds the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) and the Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI) designations.

Wes and his family believe it’s important to give back to those around them. They have supported various charitable initiatives over the years, including the Ronald McDonald House and BC Children’s Hospital.

Someone close to Wes would describe him as passionate, dedicated and caring. Outside of the office, he can be found spending quality time with his family or getting in a round at the golf course.
