Debra Wooding leads a family wealth advisory team, The Wooding Group, at Wood Gundy. Her extensive experience goes back to 1993, when she became one of Canada’s few women investment advisors.
Debra is known as a trusted advisor to families. She takes the time to listen, learn and deeply understand their personal and financial goals. Debra helps clients articulate their core life objectives and realize their ambitions, while simplifying the complexities that wealth presents.
In her group, a detailed personal financial and estate plan is integrated with wealth management that’s unique to each client. The Wooding Group and CIBC Private Wealth have the required expertise, whether clients are seeking asset protection, tax minimization, income strategies, private banking, charitable giving, business succession, generational family education or wealth transfer.
Debra’s professional designations include: Chartered Investment Manager, Portfolio Manager, Certified International Wealth Manager, Professional Financial Planner, Trust and Estate Practitioner, and Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute. She served as Branch Manager from 1996–2001 at her predecessor firm, and was awarded Manager of the Year, Canada in 1998.
That year, Debra and Tom Wooding established The Wooding Group, enhancing their wealth management approach through shared values and teamwork. Each member of the team enhances services to clients. Tom, CIMA, P.Eng, TEP, is a portfolio manager specializing in portfolio construction and responsible investments. Lindsay MacPhie, CFP, FEA, RIAC, TEP, is a wealth strategist and has advanced planning and family enterprise expertise. Peter MacPhie, CIM, MBA, is a portfolio manager who adds U.S. citizen wealth expertise and due diligence capabilities. Debra’s administrative team are CIBC National Achiever’s award recipients, recognizing their excellence in service, and administration of a seamless, responsive and efficient client experience.
Debra is passionate about giving back to her community, and assisting non-profit organizations. She has served as a director for Camp Health Hope and Happiness, iHuman Youth Society, Young AB Book Society, Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners, and CIBC Edmonton Children’s Miracle Day. Debra was recently director and chair of Compassion House Foundation, and is a 25-year United Way Builder. She frequently leads sessions and collaborates with non-profit leaders on planned giving initiatives.
Debra is a proud mom of six wonderful adult children, and Nana to five, and paints dog portraits in her spare time.
