Maili is New York-trained with Canadian roots, and started her finance career on Wall Street more than 20 years ago. She worked for top investment firms, specializing in investing and risk management, before returning home to Vancouver. There, Maili joined forces with her father, Terry, an investment advisor, in creating The Wong Group.
As the leader of The Wong Group, Maili is a stabilizing force during turbulent times. For her clients, she combines deep competence and care. Over the decades, Maili has cultivated international relationships that help her provide best-of-breed investment solutions, intelligent advice and thought leadership to her valued clients.
Maili is a licensed discretionary portfolio manager and life insurance advisor. She holds the designations of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Family Enterprise Advisor (FEA), as well as a BComm in Finance (Honours) from the University of British Columbia.
To share her personal story of resilience, and her lessons learned during her two decades of international investing experience, Maili authored Smart Risk: Invest Like the Wealthy to Achieve a Work-Optional Life. It was an Amazon #1 bestselling book.
Among her other achievements, Maili has been listed among Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100™ by Women’s Executive Network (WXN), Business in Vancouver’s “Top Forty Under 40″, and B.C.’s Most Influential Women by BCBusiness. She has also been a TEDx speaker.
In the community, Maili serves on the board of UBC’s Portfolio Management Foundation, and co-chairs the Up the Down Market fundraising gala for the Down Syndrome Resource Foundation. She is the founder of the Maili Wong Scholarship in Finance at UBC.
Maili and her husband, Keith, have two children, Jaayda and Maxwell.
