Marvin Schmidt is the founder and principal of The Schmidt Investment Group at CIBC Wood Gundy. He is also a senior wealth manager.

From a young age, Marvin was fascinated with how the world of finance incorporated every aspect of life. The Schmidt Investment Group is the culmination of his passion for finance and his desire to positively impact the lives of his clients, team and, through a foundation, some of the world’s most vulnerable people.

Marvin is a graduate of the Alberta School of Business, and earned his Certified Investment Management Analyst designation at Wharton Business School. He also holds the Certified Financial Planner designation, and the Canadian and International Trust and Estate Practitioner designation.

Marvin founded The Schmidt Investment Group in 1995, and has built it to be one of Canada’s most technically skilled wealth management practices. The practice has an industry leading client-to-professional ratio. That uniquely equips it to address the complexities of the wealth of some of Canada’s wealthiest families.

The Schmidt Investment Group provides services that exceeds expectations. They can say they are truly managing the wealth of their clients, not just holding it. Marvin says it is an enormous privilege to be entrusted with all that his clients and their families have worked so hard to build.

Throughout his career, Marvin heard many of his clients express a strong desire to give back and instill this value in their children. As a parent, Marvin shared this wish. He feels that education is the gift that keeps on giving, and that investing in children has the greatest return for all humanity. Armed with this belief, he founded Expand Hope, a public foundation and the global social impact platform of The Schmidt Investment Group.

Their social mission is to change lives, one school at a time. The Schmidt Investment Group directs 100% of its investment management revenue for all new clients, for the first 18 months, towards Expand Hope. These funds are used to build schools in areas of Guatemala with limited or no access to education. The funding is made in honour of each new client and the person who referred them.

Marvin and his wife, Leah, have three children. Together, they are active within their church and their children’s school, and enjoy travel and an active lifestyle.
