Screen-based industries are growing exponentially, and Jeff Melanson, partner at Stratagem Group, sees a strong role for colleges and institutes to advance the innovation and community development agendas in Ontario and across Canada.
”The entrepreneurial spirit and flexible program design at colleges and institutes allows private-sector partners to effectively co-design programs that meet both academic and professional needs,” he says. “As a company committed to building capacity in studio facilities, production services and content production, Stratagem realized that to meet the labour needs of a rapidly growing industry, we must do our part in ensuring the development of robust programming.”
Strategem had the idea to team up with Ontario colleges offering media arts and design programs to ensure a strong alignment between student training and professional placement – and launched internship programs with 10 colleges.
”Our goal was to develop talent and also help build local creative economies across the province,” says Mr. Melanson. Notable successes include a partnership with Canadore College on post-production and the creation of an online film training program with Seneca College.
