We'll introduce the country’s best financial advisors

In uncertain times, Canadians need sound financial expertise from advisors with experience, insight and a proven record of success. But it’s not always easy to identify the great among the good.

That’s why The Globe and Mail has partnered with SHOOK Research – producer of the America’s Top Wealth Advisors ranking with Forbes – to launch the Report on Business ranking of Canada’s Top Wealth Advisors, a new annual list of the most effective and successful financial advisors in the country.

Together, we will identify the top advisors from coast to coast. Ranked advisors will receive editorial coverage in the November issue of Report on Business magazine and online, an invitation to an exclusive event and access to the Canada’s Top Wealth Advisors seal, among other benefits.

Applications for 2022 are now open.

What is Report on Business ranking of Canada’s Top Wealth Advisors?

Canada’s Top Wealth Advisors is a new annual ranking program, produced by The Globe and Mail and SHOOK Research. Comprising proprietary research, editorial coverage and an event, it is meant to identify and celebrate the premier wealth advisors operating in Canada today.

Who is conducting the research?

The ranking parameters were developed jointly between The Globe and Mail and SHOOK Research. All research (surveys interviews, due diligence and ranking) will be conducted by SHOOK Research, following its proprietary methodology (details of which can be read here).

What are the eligibility requirements?

In order to qualify, a candidate must:

  • Have at least seven years of experience as an advisor;
  • Have a minimum one year at current firm, with exceptions (acquisitions, etc.);
  • Complete an online survey with SHOOK Research;
  • Have at least 50% of revenue/production with retail investors; and
  • Have an acceptable compliance record.

Who can be nominated?

We prefer for advisors to be recommended, and nominated, by their firms. That said, those nominated by clients or peers will also be considered.

How many winners will be chosen?

The total number of ranked advisors will depend on several factors, including the volume and quality of nominations.

How are winners selected?

Winners are chosen based on several variables, including an application survey, due diligence telephone calls, interviews (virtual and/or in-person) and data verification.

Where and when will the winners be announced?

The full list of Canada’s Top Wealth Advisors 2021 winners, and related editorial coverage, will be published in the November 2021 issue of Report on Business magazine, out in print and online in late October 2021.

What is the Canada’s Top Wealth Advisor Summit?

The Canada’s Top Wealth Advisor Summit is an exclusive event meant to forge connections and celebrate excellence among 2021 ranked advisors. It is scheduled for November 8th, 2021. Learn more and register at
