Police in southern Alberta are investigating the sudden death of an infant.

Lethbridge police say officers were called early Tuesday to Chinook Regional Hospital to investigate the death of a six-month-old boy.

Police say the father found the boy was not breathing after he had been placed on a bed to sleep.

The mother called emergency medical services and together the parents performed CPR on the boy.

The infant was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police say no further information will be released pending the results of an autopsy.
