Today, readers are discussing the international response to the killing of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Saudi Arabia’s Istanbul consulate. On Sunday, Germany announced it would be freezing arms exports to the country.
Excellent editorial. I agree. It is high time Trudeau stops hiding behind his predecessor and re-examines arms sales to the Saudis. - freshycat
What business is this of ours as far as the Saudis are concerned? Contrary to The Globe’s holier than thou editorial comment: “The world community has been shocked by such butchery – not least because it was committed with the goal of silencing a peaceful critic of an autocratic regime,” I don’t hear a word from Italy, China, Mexico, India, Korea (both North and South), Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Argentina, Chile etc. Are they not part of the world community? It seems as if it is just Canada, as usual, sticking our nose where it does not belong, along with the U.S., Germany and France. You play with fire, you get burned. Quite simple really. - Amarone
And the U.S. and Britain are happily supplying support to the Saudis in this despicable killing. - londoner15

If Justin Trudeau and Chrystia Freeland will not walk the talk, then let us find someone who will, when we go to the polls in 2019. - IanWigle1
