A search that began late on Christmas Eve for a missing ice fisherman near a dam in southeastern Saskatchewan has ended with the man being found dead.

RCMP announced late Sunday afternoon that their Underwater Recovery Team had located the 25-year-old man’s body.

They say his family and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service have been notified.

Police say the man told his family late Thursday afternoon that he was planning to go ice fishing north of the Alameda Dam, and a search for him was launched later that night.

His quad was located by the Oxbow Fire Department under the ice north of the dam.

RCMP are thanking the Oxbow Fire Department for their assistance in the search.
