An early-morning explosion at a northwest Alberta campground has sent six people to hospital.

RCMP say the individuals – ranging in age from six to 41 – were all from the same family.

The explosion involved a fifth-wheel travel trailer at the Marten River provincial campground, about 25 kilometres north of Slave Lake.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the explosion and treated the injured individuals for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

They were initially transported to a local hospital before being sent to Edmonton for further treatment.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
