Yukon says it will introduce new public health measures on Tuesday due to a surge in COVID-19 cases caused by the highly contagious Omicron variant.
Under the new guidelines, all private and public gatherings will be limited to 10 people or two households, including team sports, recreation and leisure activities.
The territory says this also includes bars and restaurants, which will remain limited to six people per table, but must close no later than 10 p.m.
It says it is postponing all indoor organized events including funerals and weddings and will require casinos to stay closed.
The Health Ministry says the new restrictions are necessary due to “unprecedented” case numbers that it says are threatening to overwhelm the territory’s health-care system.
Yukon reported 67 new cases of COVID-19 Friday for a total of 459 cases in the territory.
