ROCKS Balancing act is the result of centuries of erosion at Salisbury Rhodesia. Although the granite rocks seem precariously piled, the formation is solid and poses no danger to children playing at base. The stones at the bottom bear many examples of primitive painting.

TAINA ELG actress ON THE BALL...Hollywood star Taina Elg finds beach ball bouncing, plus some agile leaps, the perfect way to keep in good form for her movie roles, especialy when they're as strenuous as the one she plays in MGM'S "Watusi." In the new African adventure drama, in which she co-stars with George Montgomery and David Farrar, Taina plays a missionary's daughter who is rescued from hostile natives by Montgomery and Farrar and then joins them on a perilous trek in search of hidden treasure.

The images in this living archive were scanned from prints and negatives used in The Globe and Mail newsroom from the late 19th century until the transition to digital in the 1990s. With the Archive of Modern Conflict, more than 100,000 prints from The Globe and Mail newsroom have been digitized.
