Bill CROTHERS Sprinter Bill Crothers of East York hits finish line in record time for 800-yard run. Crothers clocked 1:49.0, 0.6 seconds better than record held by Ergas Leps of Toronto. Leps was sixth yesterday. Trailing Crothers are Siq Ohleman (32) and Don Bertaio (33) both from Vancouver.

CONSTRUCTION Perched comfortably on a girder with a magnificent view of Toronto around him, steel worker Walter Stein, a commuter from Keswick, enjoys solitary lunch on rapidly rising Queen's Park project. Four towers will house 9,000 civil servants working in scattered location in Toronto.

MARIPOSA FOLK FESTIVAL Perched on sports cars, with guitars at the ready, sport-shirted young fans pour into Orillia for third annual Mariposa Folk Festival. About 20,000 persons -- mostly under 30— descended on town, jamming streets, cramming parks and deafening townspeople and each other during weekend of wild frolicking.
