A support phone line for LGBTQ youth is urging Toronto’s Catholic school board to repost the resource on the board website.
LGBT YouthLine says the Toronto Catholic District School Board removed its information from the board website owing to what it described as “inappropriate material” on the group’s site.
YouthLine says the board pointed to an article that claimed the group linked to “pornography” on its website, which the organization says is untrue and “overt homophobia and transphobia.”
YouthLine says it wants the board to issue a statement retracting its decision and taking accountability for “the harm they have caused by removing YouthLine due to an inflammatory and hateful article.”
The school board says the removal of YouthLine was a result of “online content deemed inappropriate for school-aged children available through third-party resources” on its site.
The board says it will work with YouthLine to better understand that content and the group’s resources.
