The community team rounds up the most-commented articles from the Globe and Mail's website and features the most popular postings. (Note: Some comments have been condensed and edited. Scores are accurate at the time of publishing.)

Our most-commented story of the week was our report on Stephen Harper's speech at a Calgary Stampede barbecue, where he pledged to transform Canada into one of the world’s “next generation of economic powers.” The story garnered 2,198 comments.

Our highest-rated comment of the week, with a score of 315 (360 thumbs up, 45 down) came from the same story and was written by fireinthemind:

There is a price to be paid for Harper's grand vision of Canada as an economic heavy-weight. That price means Canada will no longer be the country that Canadians can love and defend.

To achieve this dangerous ideologue's vision, much of the population, revolted by their own government, will become citizens in name only.
